From Making Policies to Trusting Employees

One of the central choices for managers is whether to establish policies and exert control or to empower and trust their employees. While the latter may be more challenging, many have observed that the shift from micromanagement to empowerment is not just beneficial—it's essential in today’s business environment. Companies like Netflix exemplify this transition by eliminating policies that track vacation time, aiming to foster a culture of trust and autonomy.

This keynote explores how organizations can move from micromanagement to a focus on nurturing inputs—such as culture, principles, and people—rather than merely controlling outputs. Drawing on groundbreaking research and insights from Nordic pioneers in empowering organizations, this talk uncovers practices that enable companies to thrive in environments characterized by freedom and creativity.

The Role of Human Work in the Age of AI

The rise of artificial intelligence compels us to reexamine the essence of our humanity—our creativity, empathy, intuition, and originality—as we strive to remain relevant in an increasingly automated world. As AI capabilities expand, our perceptions of what distinguishes us as humans are challenged, inviting deeper exploration of our potential.

Yet, many of our established organizational philosophies and models seem, ironically, tailored for AI agents rather than humans, focusing on efficiency and producing toward set targets. We have often confined creativity and intuition to specific roles or outcomes, associating them with measurable achievements or aesthetic production.

This discussion invites you to reflect on the intrinsic values and orientations that differentiate human beings from artificial counterparts—qualities that transcend mere skill and technical proficiency. We will delve into the logic of organizational tenets that support and amplify human potential, fostering environments where profound human orientations can thrive.

Maintaining Collaborative Organizing In Scaleups

As startups become scaleups, many want to maintain a collegial, low-hierarchy organizing culture and practices natural to them when the firm is smaller.

This keynote delves into the dynamics of collective authority and dialogue in 100-500 employee contexts attempting to maintain their communal orientation as the company grows. Drawing on insights from cutting-edge research and real-world examples from pioneering Nordic companies, this keynote invites participants to reflect on how embracing shared principles and collective dialogue can continue to empower their organizations.
